It is expected that the world production in 2017/18 Marketing Year (MG) will grow by 13 million tons (raw base) to a record 185 million tons, compared with the original forecast of USDA in May. If this is achieved, production will be 20 million tons higher than the 5-year minimum recorded just 2 years ago. Record production in Brazil, the expected recovery in India and Thailand due to favorable weather, the end of quotas for production in the European Union (EU), and the expansion of crops in China all contribute to growth. The jump in production supports record exports and consumption of 62 million and 174 million tons, respectively. Final stocks will grow by 5%, as higher reserves in the EU and India more than offset the decline in inventories in China.
